DEAD MAN’S CHEST

This has nothing got to do anything special and having bored watched few movies while all alone in Mangalore. This movie is a series of Pirates of the Garbiean. However my reflection is not on this movie but the next series. The end of world.

I watched this movie in which Will Turner tries desperately to show his love to Elizabeth Swan who somehow has more interest in piracy and on other pirates (Jack Sparrow for one to name). However the movie goes on where both Will and Elizabeth manage to marry in the middle of sword fight between the pirates and East Indian Company soldiers. Thanks to Barbados Elizabeth Swan becomes Mrs. Elizabeth Turner especially to my delight. Some followers of this serial movie prefer Jack.
However it is not a fairly tale ending though this is still the production output of Walt Disney who cater to kids and some grown up kids like me. As the movie goes in the final battle, Will Turner is mortally wounded by the captain of the Dutchman. The heart of the captain of Dutchman (ship which sails 10 years and comes to shore for 1 day) will be taken away and kept in a chest. Thereby the captain becomes immortal. Whoever mange to slain him by piercing the heart that is kept in the chest becomes the captain of Dutchman. But becoming the captain means that he his heart will be taken and kept in the dead man’s chest. He has the privilege of mortality in exchange for 10 years on sea and 1 day on shore life.

In the previous episode Will Turner did not slain the heart as he feared that he will be doomed to sea and thereby have to let go of Elizabeth. This Elizabeth learns in this episode when she ended up prisoner aboard the Dutchman through the father of Will Turner. Probably this made her to accept Will Turner proposal to marry her in the middle of a sword fight.

As Will Turner is above to die Jack Sparrow manages to hold the heart of the Dutchman’s captain. He kept this near Will Turner and forces his hand to kill the heart. As the captain dies, the crew of Dutchman surrounds Will Turner. His father comes to him; saying that Dutchman always is in need of a captain and start the process of removing Will Turner heart. Elizabeth cries in agony but Jack takes her and leaves the Dutchman and returns to the ship black pearl.

Will Turner becomes the captain of Dutchman and with black pearl fights of the English and destroys their primary ship. Other battle ships of English retreat in defeat.

As per the law the captain can have one day on shore so Will Turner and Elizabeth spends one day in an island and then he sets off to sea. He hands over his heart in the custody of Elizabeth.

As the story line goes after 10 years Will turner comes back for his one day on shore package. Elizabeth and her 9 year old son watches from over cliff awaiting the arrival of Will Turner.

As the sun sets in the Ocean the Dutchman appears with Will Turner standing on the edge of the ship eager to meet his family.

I was wondering how one could accept 10 years of self imprisonment for 1 day freedom and for mortality will someone do it. Then I thought of my position, I am at sea away from home. At least I can call my wife over mobile. How does will turner can do that. But why did he do it. Actually he did not. They why did Jack do it? Why did I do and I am doing right now. Why did I accept a profile far away from home at sea? These questions are raised in my mind and the results are been recorded now.

Lets review the movie and understand why Will Turner are Jack did it.
One Will Turner was mortally wounded and is dying there is no option for him either. Even if wish to protest he cannot as he is weak and dying. Jack could have done it. He also wants to be immortal but he a guy who loves to roam freely and not bonded. But he is also good soul he knows that the only way to revive Will is to imprison him in Dutchman. He showed his gratitude in the next episode where he gives the portion of life to his ex-lover Angelica. He coins a method by which that her greedy father will not take away the life of his daughter by persuading him to drink from the wrong cup.

Now lets review my case.

Why I am here. No body forced me. I took the knife and took out my heart and placed it in the DEAD MAN’S CHEST. Why it is true that I am also mortally (financially) wounded. My wounds are starting to heal true. But still wounds are still there. I am aboard Dutchman sailing awaiting for that 1 day on shore which is not yet due.

Will there be a way out.

As per the latest 3D movie on the same it is portrayed that as per the Dutchman rule the Captain will be freed from his duties after 10 years if his love remained truthful to him during that time. I am yet to see that version. Hope Elizabeth will not think anyone especially Jack. So Will Turner can go back to his home after 10 years to his son and wife. What about me?

Oh my God! Why I am so self centered. There are so many who live like this. Our soldiers, and civilians too who work in foreign countries. Also the guys who move away from their home for a living. Will they have a chance too?
There again I did some calculation, if will turner is spending a whole 24 hours one day with his loved one then is it more or less. I worked out some basic calculation being in production line this is part of my job. The results are quite mind boggling.

Let us assume that a man (man is actually gender free, only male female are gender based) works for 8 hours a day for a period of 6 days in a week. Let us say that he travels for about 2 hour to reach and return from the place of work. Let say that he sleeps normally; as per the doctor’s recommendation which is 8 hours a day. Overall he has 6 hours in a day for himself and for his family.

Now let us take the case of Will Turner he has 24 hours for himself and his loved ones. One year has 365 days and has 24 hours a day. If you work out for 10 years it comes to 87600 hours of which he has 24 hours. In terms of percentage it is about 0.027 only.

A normal man case with 6 days work means he has one 24 hours all by himself his weekly off. I am not calculating other leaves, holidays over here. So over all he has 66 hours per week for himself, a whopping 39% of his time available free. But still man (here I refer male) complaints that they do not have time. Look at poor Will Turner who has only 0.027% for himself and I think he made good use of it. Remember as per the movie he becomes a father and a loving one too.

For those lucky ones who work on a 5 day format think again fellow you got more time for yourself than for the one pays your monthly wages.

There are exceptions to the above especially with respect to travel time. But remember I have not included other holidays and CL, PL etc., that means fellow humans we got more time for ourselves than that poor Will Turner so make use of it. Please do not take this as a cause to increase the existing population. But spend valuable time with your family.
Now I come to the poor souls who sweat it out in Middle East, shiver in Artic or Antarctic. There are more poor souls who serve in army who also live in far off places. Still there is a way. Will turner and Elizabeth can make it in their 3D movie version. One long 10 years at sea sure is hell but think of home and come back.

As far as I am concerned I am not going to play by the rule. A maximum of 5 years is what I kept where I will remain on sea and then I am going home. Unlike Will Turner I can go to the shore for few days and come back. I can keep in touch through mobile. But sure I am reaching shore my home for ever. And they lived happily ever after! This applies to both Will Turner family and for my family. (Walt Disney failed to do close their movie stating they lived happily ever after, which is customary. I am doing it on their behalf.
